Waldwick Officer Chris Sanchez saw a man later identified as Orange County, NY resident Jaoine Ford, of Chester, speeding in a 2023 Ford Escape on Route 17 south at 12:23 a.m., Waldwick Lt. Troy Seifert said.

Ford failed to stop and a brief pursuit was initiated.

Paramus Officer Jamie Takahashi was responding to Paramus Road and Glen Avenue when his northbound vehicle was struck by the suspect vehicle, which was leaving Morristown Place without stopping, Paramus Police Chief Robert Guidetti said. Takahashi's passenger's side was struck and no injuries were reported. Takahashi’s patrol vehicle sustained moderate damage in the incident.

Ford was arrested in Paramus and transported back to Waldwick. He was charged with eluding and driving with a suspended license and issued several motor vehicle summonses.

This is the second time in two days that a police officer was struck by a suspect in Bergen County. Over the weekend, officers from Allendale and Saddle River were struck by a DUI driver on Route 17.
